Politics and current affairs

Geography.
An archipelago of the Lesser Antilles, in the south-west sector of the Virgin Islands archipelago, the US Virgin Islands comprise about 60 islands, islets and rocks. The largest islands are Saint Croix, Saint Thomas and Saint John. The islands are of volcanic origin, very mountainous, with rugged coastlines. They have a tropical climate.

Acquired from Denmark in 1917, the islands are an “Unincorporated territory” of the USA. They have one non-voting representative in the House of Representatives in Congress in Washington. The Governor is elected for four years. The Senate has 15 members who are elected for two years.
