Discovered by Carteret in 1767, Pitcairn was colonized in 1790 by nine mutineers of the “Bounty” and 18 Tahitians.
A British overseas territory, the Pitcairn Islands comprise the volcanic island of Pitcairn south-east of the Tuamotus archipelago, and the uninhabited atolls of Ducie (0.7 km²), Oeno (0.6 km²) and Henderson (37.3 km²).
