Politics and current affairs

The islands are an overseas territorial collectivity of Metropolitan France administered by a General Council (19 members) elected directly for a six-year mandate. The islands are represented in Paris by one deputy and one senator.

Geography.
The Saint-Pierre and Miquelon islands are situated in the north-west Atlantic Ocean, just south of Newfoundland. Miquelon, the larger island, rises to 240 m and has a oceanic, cold and wet climate.
