Geography.
An enclave in Italy between the regions of Emilia-Romagna and the Marches, San Marino is dominated by Mount Titano (793 m). The climate is temperate. Since 2008 the historic centre and Mount Titano have been a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Government
San Marino is one of the oldest independent republic in the world: it’s first statute dates back to 1253. Legislative power is executed by the Great and General Council (60 members elected for five-year terms), which appoints two Captains Regent to serve every six months. The Captains Regent preside over the Congress of State (no more than 10 members) which exercises the executive power of the state.

Economy
The country and its banking sector are experiencing the most profound crisis in over a decade (GDP has fallen by 40% since 2008). Banking secrecy was abolished in 2017. Tourism remains a key sector, fuelled by its vicinity to the Romagna coastline. Sales of coins and stamps for collectors are also important sources of revenue. Industry here mainly consists of small businesses in textiles, rubber, paper and leather production. The country is linked to EU by monetary and customs agreements.
