Geography.
An archipelago of the Lesser Antilles, the country includes Antigua (280 km²), Barbuda (160.5 km²) and Redonda (1.5 km²), fringed with coral reefs. It has a dry climate. Antigua’s highest point is Mount Boggy (402 m).

Government


A British colony until 1967, the islands became independent in 1981. The British Sovereign is represented by a Governor General who appoints the Prime Minister and the 17 members of the Senate; the House of Representatives (17 members) is elected for a five-year term.
